Ninety-eight-year-old robbery victim dies

A 98-year-old ‘Phoenix’-area robbery victim who was suffering from dementia has died in hospital.

Bed-ridden pensioner Elsie Bird’s home, in Stone Road, Trentham, was targeted on the Morning of Friday, October 21.

Her attacker took rings from her fingers leaving her badly shaken and her hand severely bruised. Other jewellery and cash was also taken.

A file has been prepared for HM Coroner.

Ongoing inquiries

Meanwhile Staffordshire Police continue to investigate the incident.

A man named as Jason O’Connor has been charged with the robbery together with a further offence of burglary, in Trentham.

He has also been charged with the robbery of an elderly man, in Stafford, together with a further offence of burglary.

Already in jail

O’Connor is currently on remand in prison in connection with a third offence of burglary at the home of an elderly woman in the Clayton area of Newcastle.

Staffordshire Police’s Detective Inspector Phil Bryan has offered deepest condolences to Elsie Bird’s family for their loss.
