Man dies after apparently falling onto the A38 near Burton

A man was found dead last night (November 15) following a report that someone had fallen from a bridge over the A38, near Burton on Trent.

Staffordshire Police were called to the scene at around 11.05pm and found the body of a man in his 20s near the Shobnall footbridge, on the northbound carriageway, between Branston and Claymills.

He had been in a collision with an HGV, which stopped at the scene.  His family have been informed.

The road was closed until around 8:30am this morning while incident investigators examined the area.

Investigation

Inspector Bob Champeau, said work was ongoing to establish what happened.

He also thanked motorists for their patience while road was closed, which he said had caused significant disruption.

The police would like to hear from anyone who was travelling northbound on the A38 through Burton, between 10:30 and 11:05pm last night.
