Police officer injured in Tamworth – witnesses sought

A police officer was taken to hospital after being struck by an off-road motorbike, in Tamworth.

The 45-year-old male officer was on foot when the incident occurred, at around 6pm, yesterday (August 31), in Hockley Road.

Paramedics gave him treatment for arm and leg injuries at the scene before he was taken to Good Hope Hospital.

The officer was described this afternoon as being, “in a stable condition”.

Road closed

The road remained closed while a detailed investigation of the area was carried out.

A 19-year-old local man has been arrested.  A motorcycle has been seized and examined by forensics officers.

Staffordshire Police have recovered CCTV footage as part of their investigation.

Witnesses sought

They are now asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or seen an off-road, or scrambler type motorcycle, in the area yesterday evening, to contact them.

People with information are asked to ring DC Andy Shorthouse by ringing 101, and quoting incident 644, of 31 August.
